IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: HILLS SPIRIT FC – SEASON 2018 REGISTRATIONS OPEN 8 JANUARY 2018!

Dear Hills Spirit Community,

I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas and Santa delivered what you wished for!

Even though it is very warm right now, the last thing you may be thinking about is winter but it is almost time to register for football in Season 2018.

Our club will be opening registrations on Monday 8 January 2018. In relation to this registration process, please note the following:

Team Formation: If you have a team of players who want to play together, great! However, if not, please still register and we will do our best to match you to a team for your age group. Naturally, teams will lose players as players move on to other things, try new sports, move to elite level football eg SAP/Youth NPL or change clubs etc. However, even if your team has lost players or disbanded, don’t despair, we will try our very best to match that player to a team.

Feel free to contact myself or any of the committee members if you need help in forming a team.

An email with steps on how to complete the registration procedure will be sent out closer to the time registrations open.

Active Kids Rebate: you may have heard about the NSW Government’s Active Kids Rebate Scheme which will launch on 31 January 2018. Essentially, under the scheme the NSW Government will provide a $100 voucher to parents/guardians of school enrolled children (K to Year 12). The $100 voucher can be used for registration and participation costs for sport and fitness activities. You must apply for the voucher separately from Service NSW on and from 31 January 2018 to take advantage of the scheme.

If you are seeking to make use of this voucher for Hills Spirit registration fees, you can do so through the www.myfootballclub.com.au registration process which will automatically reduce the registration fee charge by $100. Even though the scheme opens later than the date we open registrations, you will still be able to claim the rebate. The process will be slightly different however depending on whether you register before or after 31 January 2018.

We will outline the process in the registration email that we will send out shortly.

For further information on the Active Kids Rebate see:

https://sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/activekids

Registration Fee Changes: Fees will slightly increase across the board (but will still be one of the lowest in the Association). This will amount to approximately $20 per player across the membership base. This is mainly due to covering the rising cost of ground fees, the club’s contribution for the installation of a defibrillator at the home ground later in the year (we have just applied for a government grant to cover some of this cost), purchasing of additional apparel and equipment.

This is a great club with a fantastic community spirit. I know this is something that sets us apart from many other clubs in this region. Our aim is to try and cater for everyone and treat our members as individuals not numbers. Therefore, I hope to see as many of you returning to the club for the 2018 season as possible.

If you decide to not return, good luck in your future endeavours, and we hope to see you back with us again some time in the future.

Have a fantastic New Year and stay tuned for further information on the registration process.

Yours in sport,

Chris Thian, President Hills Spirit FC.

Hills Spirit FC – Important Club Update

Dear Hills Spirit Community,

It’s Chris here, your new Club President for 2018,  and I’ve just been handed the reigns of the President email account so you will be able to reach me using the email presidenthillsspiritfc@gmail.com going forward.

This is just a brief note to firstly thank our outgoing President, Mark McCrea, who has done an outstanding job in the role over the past few years. He played an instrumental role in implementing and navigating some of the most significant changes in our club’s history, such as the move into the new Hills Association, together with attracting new sponsors and being a passionate advocate of our club within the wider community. This tireless work in that role is greatly appreciated by not only me but I’m sure I speak for all us at the club. Thankfully, we will still have Mark involved as Treasurer and as part of the Executive Committee as Chairman, so he is not lost to the club as we move into the next phase of our growth as a club.

As Mark has listed the number of achievements throughout recent years in his previous email, our next aim is to build on that solid platform that our committee and dedicated volunteers have put into place.

We are already looking at way that we can grow the club both now and into the future so we can develop into the club of choice for our booming region. During the off season, we are already in discussions the Association on ways that we can do that which will include:

        Growing player numbers at all ages from youth football to seniors so we are able to cater for ;

        Establishing teams for the first time in female competitions;

        Providing opportunities for players at all levels to develop their football skills;

        Hosting coaching courses during the year so our coaches have the tools to help our coaches improve our players;

Providing development pathways into elite football for players, referees and coaches.

These are exciting times for the club and I really look forward to working together with you all towards achieving these goals. Registrations commence in the new year, so whilst it might seem early to start thinking about football in the winter season, it is a good opportunity to start looking at getting your teams together.

You will hear more about these developments in the new year. If you would like to get in touch, please feel free to contact me.

Wishing you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Take care and see you in 2018!

Yours in sport,

Chris Thian, President Hills Spirit FC.

Hills Spirit FC – Wine Fundraiser and Team Photos

Dear Hills Spirit FC Community,

Fun, Friendship & Community ……a commitment from all of us…….

Our committee has received some recent feedback regarding bullying and misbehaving during training sessions for some of our teams. Kids will be kids and we can all appreciate this, and there is a lot of hyperactivity during fun training sessions which is a great thing. Our coaches are volunteers and dedicating their time to ensure our children’s soccer experience is enjoyable. It is extremely difficult for a single person to be running training drills and also be watching what is going on behind their back during these sessions. It is the responsibility of all parents to ensure our kids are having fun at training but not misbehaving and following instructions and being respectful of their team mates.

I would encourage parents to be active during training, give the coach as much assistance as they need during the sessions and to keep an eye on all the kids as they enjoy training with their friends. If any incidents do occur, the kids need to be made aware and punished accordingly (simple things such as running a lap or sitting out the next drill). They are all there to have fun and we just need to ensure it’s controlled and doesn’t get out of hand!

This is a great community club built on friendships first………Fun, Friendship and Community. It’s been a great season so far and my feedback is all teams are really enjoying themselves. Let’s keep up the great spirit and morale at the club – it really sets us apart from others!

Hills Spirit FC – ASA Football Trial Night

Dear Hills Spirit FC Community,

Wet Weather Football!

After weeks of glorious Saturday weather, this week was our first with uncertainty around game cancellations and unpredictable weather. We made an early call to cancel our MiniRoos early this morning. This was to preserve the playing surface and also the fact that the kids are all aged 4 -7 and there was still rain around early this morning. Some grounds across the Hills were closed but most remained open and most of our aged based teams still got to have a game, which was a great outcome. We will always try and keep coaches/managers updated during these uncertain times, and the Hills Football FB page is a great source of information for ground closures throughout the morning. A massive thank you to Steve Wright also, who was at the ground at the break of dawn as he usually is, checking the playing condition of our field and helping me field questions throughout the day. The club is very lucky to have a volunteer like Steve looking after our kids best interests not just on Saturdays but all throughout the week as well……

ASA Football Trial Night

The ASA Football Academy, in partnership with Hills Spirit FC, is offering players a free trial run before deciding to register for our development program. Players can come down for a training session on Thursday 1st June from 7.30pm – 8.30pm. Parents can speak to Pat and his team on the night about registering for the program. Please register your interest for this free trial with Pat and full details are available on the attached flyer.

Team Photo Days

As previously advised, the team photo days will be held over a couple of weekends in June. Due to the rescheduling forced by regrading, we haven’t been able to book teams into days/times for photos. Once the draw is released and we have confirmation of our teams locations and playing times, Ian will book in the team photos. We will then communicate this out to everybody with plenty of notice.

Hills Spirit FC – Regrading

Dear Hills Spirit FC Community,

Regrading and Season Draw

After round 4 of competition, all age groups and divisions were reviewed for regrading opportunities. Over 50 teams were regraded as a result of this review. Fortunately, no Hills Spirit FC teams were regrading, although the competitions we play in will be affected by other teams moving in and out of these competitions.

A new full season draw will be developed by the association this week. Once this draw is finalised, I will collate this information and forward it to all Hills Spirit FC coaches and managers to share with their teams.

Please note our MiniRoos are not affected by this as we develop our own internal in-house draw for this competition.

Hills Spirit FC Development Program

A final reminder for those wishing to be part of the development program this season. Last season, Hills Spirit FC, in partnership with ASA Football Academy, successfully launched our inaugural football development program to provide professional, European style coaching to our players. We had 25 participants last season and the feedback from this program was fantastic.

We are looking to conduct another 10 week program starting from the last 5 weeks in term 2 of the school year running through to week 5 of the third term. The 2 weeks of school holidays will be back-up for any washouts during the first 5 week schedule. The cost will be $220 which all goes to ASA Football – this costs also includes a kit provided by ASA Football. We would be looking at 7.30pm – 8.30pm on Thursday nights.

Anybody who is keen on participating in the development program this season, please contact Pat on 0404 148 259 as soon as possible.

Fundraising

Thank you to everybody for contributing towards our current Cadbury Chocolate fundraiser. We are currently chasing up the outstanding orders and will finalise this shortly with coaches and managers. All monies raised will go directly back to our kids on presentation day.

Keep an eye out for upcoming advertisements regarding Hills Spirit FC branded wine!……..we hope all teams and parents get involved in this initiative and purchase some personalised Hills Spirit FC red and white wine!

Hills Spirit FC – Season Draw

Dear Hills Spirit FC Community,

Season Draw

Hills Football has now released a season schedule for all age groups and all divisions. However, there will be a grading review and regrading after this weekend (Round 4), which means some competition draws will be subject to change. Once the regrading has been finalised and the draws updated, I will issue an updated season draw to all coaches and managers.

Please note our MiniRoos are not affected by this as we develop our own internal in-house draw for this competition.

Instructional Referees

As previously advised, our club has some junior Instructional Referees who are now qualified to referee ages under 8s through to under 11s. This is the first year for all our boys and we are receiving some great feedback on their performances.

Just a reminder that it is the responsibility of all our coaches, managers and parents to be fully supportive of our boys who are learning their way through this. On game day, we are to encourage and support our refs and also call out any poor behaviour or language directed at our referees from opposition (or home) spectators throughout the game. As junior referees, they will be relying on our coaches and managers to address any issues on their behalf with the opposition coach and manager. The club will also endeavour to have a match official at the ground for these games, wherever possible.

Team Photos

We are locking in the team group and individual photos for the weekends of the 17th and 24th June with Ian and Leonie at Art In Images, our official photographers. Ian will contact all teams to schedule in your date and time for your team photos, which will generally be based around when your team is playing at our home ground. For MiniRoos, we will likely do two lots of four teams over the two weekends.

We will provide further updates on this once details are confirmed.

Good luck tomorrow all!

Yours in sport,

Mark McCrea, President Hills Spirit FC.

Hills Spirit FC – Community Spirit

Cadbury Fundraiser

Thank you to all our coaches, managers and parents for contributing towards our Cadbury chocolate fundraiser. The club will make $20 per full box sold and all funds will go directly towards our kids on presentation day, so your full support is greatly appreciated.

All boxes have been handed to team managers who will distribute to parents over the coming week, if they haven’t done so already. Jeanette will arrange for collection from team managers and the money will be banked to contribute towards presentation day.

As always, the club appreciates everybody who contributes towards our fundraising activities which is how community clubs make money for gear, equipment and gifts for the clubs players. Keep an eye out for a couple of more fun activities planned throughout the season!

Community Spirit!

A massive thank you to all the parents who stayed back today and to those who helped with the running of the grounds and BBQ throughout the day. Our regular organisers had other commitments for full or part of the day, and it was great to see such club spirit and everybody chipping in to help get things sorted, and thank you to you all!

This proud club is run solely by volunteers and people who dedicate a great deal of their personal time to ensure our kids get out on the field each and every week. Sometimes these efforts go unnoticed and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to our club coaches, managers, committee members, coordinators, referees and other volunteers who give up their time each and every week for our club.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend all and have a great Anzac Day.

Yours in sport,

Mark McCrea, President Hills Spirit FC.

Hills Spirit FC – Weekly Update (Happy Easter)!

Dear Hills Spirit FC Community,

Happy Easter!

On behalf of Hills Spirit FC and all our committed volunteers from of our club committee, coaches and managers, I would like to wish you all a happy and safe Easter holiday.

A reminder as well that there are no games to be played this weekend over Easter. Our next round of matches will be played on Saturday 22nd April.

MiniRoos Coordinator

It is with pleasure and thanks that I announce Sean Finucane as the MiniRoos coordinator for this season. Sean will run the MiniRoos competition for us every Saturday, with the assistance of our club Secretary, Ian Blazey, and they will be the point of contact for any questions from coaches, managers and parents throughout the season.

Community clubs are only as successful as the volunteers who come forward to help out, so a massive thank you to Sean and Ian for taking on these responsibilities and I’m sure you’ll appreciate all their efforts throughout the season ahead. Both Sean and Ian will be on ground on Saturday mornings for our MiniRoos program.

Hills Spirit Development Squad

Another reminder regarding the Hills Spirit FC development program. Last season, Hills Spirit FC, in partnership with ASA Football Academy, successfully launched our inaugural football development program to provide professional, European style coaching to our players. We had 25 participants last season and the feedback from this program was fantastic. Anybody who is keen on being involved in the development program this season, please contact Pat on 0404 148 259.

Fundraising

Our Fredo Chocolate fundraising boxes have arrived. Post the Easter break, we will allocate boxes to each team Manager to distribute to each family and collect the $50 for the box. Families can elect to pay the $50 upfront for the box, (and then sell the chocolates), or sell the chocolates and return the $50 to the team manger within the 2 week allocation period. There will only be one allocation per family – the allocation will go to the team with the eldest child for families with more than one player at the club. As always, the club appreciates your support with our fundraising activities.

Experience of a Lifetime?

Our Under 8s had the wonderful opportunity to play on ANZ Stadium at the half-time of the Wanderers v Melbourne Victory match last Saturday night. The kids were buzzing with excitement all day and had the time of their life on ‘centre stage’ during the half-time break. Hopefully we’ll get further opportunities down the track for other teams to participate, particularly those teams currently coming through our MiniRoos program!

Yours in sport,

Mark McCrea, President Hills Spirit FC.

Hills Spirit Bunnings BBQ:

On Sunday 5th March we held our inaugural Bunnings club fundraising BBQ at Castle Hill Bunnings. The club is extremely grateful to those committee members, coaches, managers, children and team volunteers who gave up their time and contributed to the success of the day.
